Chapter 5 - UNRAVELING THE LIE

The air left Mark’s lungs all at once.
His hand trembled violently as his fingers untied the red string.
The woman pushed herself up from the couch, her face completely drained of blood.
Her eyes were wild, darting toward the open front door, then back to the thick stack of legal documents in his hand.
"Don't read that!" she screamed, her voice cracking into a desperate shriek.
"Mark, please! She was sick, she didn't know what she was doing!"
Mark pulled out the first page.
It was an official hospital release form and a custody transfer affidavit from a clinic three states away.
His wife wasn't dead.
She had been placed in a private care facility, her location concealed under a false name.
Attached to the back was a signed financial agreement transferring her entire family estate to the woman standing in his living room—upon proof of her total abandonment by her husband.
The woman had been forging his signature on rejection letters for months.
She had beaten Lily to keep her quiet.
