Chapter 15 - The Golden Legacy

The sun had reached its peak, bathing the sweeping coastline in blinding, glorious light.

Eleanor walked out onto the grand marble terrace overlooking the ocean. The wind coming off the water was crisp and cool, whipping her brown hair across her face.

She walked to the edge of the stone balustrade, where the cliffs dropped off sharply into the crashing foam below.

In her right hand, she held the solid twenty-four-karat gold VIP card—the object that had terrorized Victoria Sterling, commanded Marcus's obedience, and unlocked the hidden vaults of her family's dark empire.

She looked at the golden surface. The laser-engraved lion crest sparkled in the sunlight, pristine, valuable, and ancient.

It was a symbol of absolute power. A symbol that had cost her grandfather his freedom, forced her to live like a fugitive in the mountains, and brought terror to everyone who held it.

Eleanor didn't want power. She wanted a future.

She looked down at the dark, roaring waves below the cliffs.

Slowly, deliberately, Eleanor raised her arm.

She didn't hesitate. She didn't pause for dramatic effect.

With a swift, graceful flick of her wrist, Eleanor sent the solid gold card spinning out into the open sky.

It caught the sunlight as it tumbled through the air, flashing like a tiny golden star against the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean. It spun once, twice, three times, cutting through the salty sea air, before dropping straight down into the churning white foam of the waves.

The ocean swallowed it instantly.

The gold was gone. The key was destroyed. The Sterling empire was no longer a secret vault of power, but a place of light, sanctuary, and second chances.

Eleanor turned her back on the ocean and walked toward the grand glass doors of the lobby, where David was waiting for her with a warm smile and a group of newly hired local apprentices who were learning how to run the front desk.

"Are you ready for lunch, Miss Sterling?" David asked as she walked inside.

"I am, David," Eleanor said, her hazel eyes bright with warmth and peace. "And please... call me Eleanor."

She walked into the sunlit lobby, her light footsteps making no sound against the warm, clean floor, as the doors of The Royal Montecito opened wide to welcome the world.
