Chapter 3 - The Broken Vow

Valeria straightened her shoulders, her hands smoothing down the front of her off-shoulder dress with sharp, nervous jerks.
"She ruined five thousand dollars of silk, Julian!" Valeria spat, pointing at the tiny pulled thread near her shoulder.
"She doesn't belong up here with us! Look at her! She’s shaking like a dog!"
Julian’s eyes narrowed into dark, dangerous slits.
The camera zoomed in tight on his face in an extreme close-up.
A single vein pulsed wildly at his right temple, dark and raised under his skin.
He didn't look at the white flower arches framing the altar.
He didn't look at the three-tier wedding cake glistening under the spotlights.
He took one step forward, stepping directly on a crushed rose petal beneath his boot.
"¡Esta boda queda cancelada inmediatamente!" Julian roared, his voice booming through the hall like thunder.
"This wedding is canceled immediately!"
The guests in the front row gasped in unison, women pressing their gloved hands over their mouths.
Valeria’s jaw dropped open, the color instantly draining from her lips until they turned a waxy, translucent white.
