Chapter 1 - The Shattered Gala

In a luxurious golden ballroom with crystal chandeliers, a tall, muscular Caucasian man in his 30s with dark hair and a dark grey button-up shirt stands angrily. A young blonde girl in a pink dress clings to his waist, crying. In the background, a young woman in a black off-the-shoulder dress and other guests in formal wear look on. The camera is static, medium shot, eye-level, with a shallow depth of field focusing on the man and child.

The golden glare of three massive crystal chandeliers bounced off polished marble floors, casting an ethereal, suffocating warmth across the grand hall. High society murmured in hushed tones, sipping vintage champagne from long-stemmed flutes, oblivious to the storm brewing in the center of the floor. Suddenly, the soft harmony of the string quartet was ripped apart by a high-pitched, terrifying sob.

Arthur felt the violent trembling of his six-year-old daughter, Lily, before he even processed her scream. She clung to his waist, her small fingers knotting tightly into the fabric of his dark grey button-up shirt, her pale pink dress wrinkled and stained with damp, frightened tears. Her tiny frame shuddered as she buried her face against his torso, gasping for air between fits of weeping. Arthur lowered his hand, resting a protective palm on the back of her head, feeling her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.

His dark eyes snapped upward, scanning the circle of wealthy onlookers who stood frozen in their tuxedos and silk gowns. The blood surged in his ears, a roaring furnace of adrenaline that erased every soft impulse in his body. His jaw locked, the muscles along his neck tightening into hard steel.

"What did you do to my daughter?!" Arthur bellowed, his voice detonating across the cavernous room like a heavy artillery shell.

The sound vibrated through the gold-leaf molding, instantly silencing the hushed whispers of the aristocracy. Eyes turned. Champagne glasses halted halfway to red lips. The tension in the air became thick, magnetic, and razor-sharp.
