Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass

The grand ballroom of the Sterling estate was a monument to old money and carefully curated facades. Crystal chandeliers hung like frozen constellations from the vaulted ceiling, casting a warm, suffocating amber glow over hundreds of elite guests draped in custom silk and diamonds. The air tasted of vintage champagne, expensive perfume, and the quiet, heavy tension of people who lived in perpetual fear of falling from grace.
Then, reality tore through the velvet illusion.
With a deafening, catastrophic crash, a silver tray laden with crystal champagne flutes struck the polished hardwood floor. Shards of glass exploded outward like tiny diamonds, scattering across the room as amber liquid soaked into the hem of designer gowns. In the center of the devastation stood Chloe, a young waitress whose neat, high bun had come slightly undone. Her black uniform with its crisp white collar seemed suddenly inadequate against the crushing weight of the room. Her right cheek was violently flushed, a raw, angry red swelling where a hand had just struck her. Her chest heaved, silent sobs wracking her slender frame as she stared down at the wreckage, paralyzed by a terror that went far beyond a dropped tray.
