Chapter 4 - The Golden Fracture

It began as a faint needle-point of light in the center of the old man’s chest—a warm, amber spark flickering beneath his tattered grey rags.

Then, the fabric tore. Not from physical force, but from the sudden, breathtaking eruption of light that surged from within his skin.

Julian stumbled backward, tripping over his own straw mat, hitting the dirt floor hard. He raised his arm to shield his eyes, but the light was not fire; it did not burn. It was a thick, liquid radiance—a blinding golden halo that dissolved the damp shadows of the wooden cabin into absolute, pristine white.

The rain outside ceased instantly. The wind died down into a profound, unnatural silence that vibrated with a deep, hummed chord, like the resonance of a massive brass bell struck in an empty cathedral.

"What is this...?" Julian gasped, his voice swallowed by the roaring brilliance.

The old man stood tall. The stoop in his spine vanished as his bones cracked and realigned with magnificent, liquid grace. The gray, dirty rags covering his emaciated frame began to unravel, turning into threads of pure, white light that re-wove themselves into flowing robes of blinding silk, edged with complex, glowing gold embroidery that shifted and changed like living geometry.

His messy grey hair lengthened, lifting off his shoulders, floating in an invisible updraft, turning into shimmering silver strands that caught the divine light. The dirt, the bruises, the tracks of rain on his weathered skin dissolved into flawless, glowing alabaster.

The cabin walls around them began to creak, groan, and break apart. The rotting pine planks didn't shatter; they turned into dust, blowing away into a sea of endless, golden mist.

Julian looked up from the floor, trembling violently, his mind collapsing under the sheer impossibility of what his senses were reporting. He wasn't staring at an old beggar anymore. He was looking at a entity of immense, absolute, terrifically beautiful authority.

The entity raised his hand, his eyes shining like twin suns through the golden fog.

"You shared your last water with kindness," the voice boomed—not through the air, but directly inside Julian’s mind, vibrating every cell in his body with overwhelming force. "Never stop helping others."
