Chapter 6 - The Final Vow

The room was dead silent, save for the sound of heavy breathing.
The little girl had stopped crying, watching the scene with wide, unblinking eyes.
The blonde woman turned her back on the groaning bodies.
She stepped toward the marble table.
Her manicured fingers reached into the pile of destroyed cake.
She pinched the gold band of the ring, lifting it from the velvet box.
Pink frosting dripped from the massive diamond.
She held it up to the light, letting the jewel catch the golden glare of the vanity bulbs.
In the blurred background, the man in the navy suit groaned.
He dragged his bloody hands against the wall, fighting to stand up.
Glass crunched under his boots.
The blonde woman didn't look at him.
She stared directly ahead, the ring held perfectly at eye level.
"You rejected my gift."
Her voice was a whisper, but it cut through the room like a blade.
"Just like giving up your own life."
She slid the ring onto her finger.
May you like
The diamond flashed.
She lowered her hand, the frosting staining her skin like dried blood.
