Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Line

Five years later.

The grand dining hall of Château des Jumeaux was filled with light, music, and the warm chatter of dozens of guests.

Local vineyard workers, village schoolteachers, legal teams, and friends from Paris sat together at long wooden tables decorated with white linens, fresh wildflowers, and glowing candles.

At the head of the table sat Bennett and Josephine.

Bennett was six years older now, a few silver hairs touching his temples, but his eyes were bright, calm, and deeply content. Josephine sat beside him, wearing an exquisite midnight-blue silk gown, a delicate platinum necklace resting against her collarbone—a gift from Bennett on their wedding anniversary.

At six years old, Claire and Eleanor sat between them, wearing matching dark blue velvet dresses, proudly eating slices of birthday cake, their identical cleft chins covered in chocolate frosting.

Bennett stood up, raising his crystal glass. The chatter in the grand hall gradually fell silent as everyone turned their attention to the host.

"Six years ago," Bennett began, his voice echoing warmly off the restored limestone walls, "this house was a fortress of isolation and greed. It was a place where people hid from the world and consumed themselves in darkness."

He looked down at Josephine, his eyes shining with deep, boundless adoration.

"Then, a brave woman walked up the gravel driveway carrying two miraculous gifts in her arms," Bennett continued, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "She didn't just save her children; she saved me. She taught me that true strength isn't built on wealth or titles, but on the courage to fight for the people you love."

He raised his glass higher toward the room.

"To Josephine. To Claire and Eleanor. And to the light that will forever shine on this house."

"To Josephine! To the family!" the guests roared in unison, clinking their glasses together as warm applause filled the hall.

Josephine stood up, leaning over to press a deep, tender kiss against Bennett’s lips as the music swelled once more.

Out in the courtyard, beneath the vast, star-filled canopy of the French night sky, the ancient stone walls of the château stood strong—no longer a prison of shadows, but a sanctuary of unbroken love, standing tall against the darkness for generations to come.
