Chapter 12 - The Cayman Ledger

That evening, the top floor of the Vance Financial Tower was lit only by the green glow of computer monitors.

Ethan sat at his father's desk, typing rapidly on a secure terminal. With the Sterling empire liquidated and absorbed, Vance Financial had expanded its market cap by forty percent in ninety days. But Ethan wasn't looking at stock charts. He was tracing the final thread of the offshore accounts that Julianna’s father had hidden deep within a secondary shell company registered in Panama.

Samuel walked into the office, carrying two mugs of black coffee. He set one down beside Ethan's keyboard.

"You've been staring at that terminal for five hours, Ethan," Samuel said. "The legal team cleared the Panama transfers two days ago."

"They cleared the public accounts, Dad," Ethan replied without looking up, his fingers flying across the keys. "They missed the sub-ledger. Look at this."

Ethan turned the screen toward his father.

Highlighted in bright yellow text was an automated transfer protocol set to execute every thirty days. The destination was not a Swiss bank or a real estate trust. It was a private medical clinic in Lichtenstein, receiving fifty thousand dollars a month under the reference code PROJECT MORPHEUS.

Samuel’s eyes narrowed, his posture straightening instantly. "Morpheus was the code name Richard used for the nerve agent research."

"Exactly," Ethan said, pulling up a secondary file. "Julianna wasn't trying to poison you with a standard toxin, Dad. She was funding the clinical trial for an undetectable synthetic compound. And the patient list at that clinic isn't empty."

Samuel reached out, his calloused thumb touching the warm glass of the monitor. "Who's in that clinic?"

Ethan hit the spacebar. A high-resolution photograph popped up on the screen. It showed an elderly woman lying in a specialized medical coma bed, surrounded by life-support monitors.

"Her mother," Ethan whispered. "Richard Sterling's ex-wife. She didn't die in that car crash ten years ago, Dad. He's been keeping her alive in secret, using her biological signature to maintain control over the original Sterling family trust."
