Chapter 13 - The Fall of the House of Sterling

Within ninety seconds, the entire infrastructure of the Sterling Global Syndicate was irrevocably dismantled.
The multi-billion-dollar shadow empire—built on decades of corporate extortion, environmental destruction, and calculated murder—was officially dissolved, its liquid assets frozen by federal mandate and redirected into a global public restitution trust managed by the newly formed Vance Foundation.
Through the heavy glass doors of the boardroom, the sound of approaching sirens began to echo up from the street far below, swelling into a chorus of flashing red and blue lights that washed over the obsidian skyscraper like an oncoming storm.
Federal agents poured through the double doors, moving with clinical efficiency. They slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto Marcus Sterling and his six co-conspirators, hauling them away toward the freight elevators without a single word of protest. The architects of a global financial nightmare were reduced to whimpering cowards in cheap plastic restraints.

Aubree walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the glittering expanse of the city stretching out into the dark horizon. The rain had finally stopped, leaving the streets slick, washed, and gleaming under the pale light of dawn breaking in the east.
Her phone buzzed in her coat pocket.
She pulled it out. It was a encrypted text message from the medical wing of the Sterling Estate:

The Chairman has passed. He died peacefully. His last words were: "The cake is lit."
Aubree closed her eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The vengeance was complete. The ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest. But as she stared at her own reflection in the glass—no longer a frightened cashier, but the undisputed architect of a new world—she realized her journey had only just begun.
