Chapter 7 - The Inheritance of Vengeance

The Maybach pulled through a massive iron gate, entering the sprawling grounds of the Martin Estate—a gargantuan fortress of glass, black granite, and steel perched precariously on the edge of a sheer sea cliff.
Walter led Clara into the grand study on the second floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a terrifying view of the black ocean crashing against the jagged rocks three hundred feet below. A roaring fire burned in a massive stone fireplace, casting dancing, amber shadows across walls lined with thousands of leather-bound books and priceless artifacts.
Standing by the fireplace was Arthur, the attorney, alongside two armed guards. On the massive mahogany desk sat a thick leather folder stamped with a golden seal.
"Three months ago, I was diagnosed with terminal bone marrow cancer," Walter said, walking over to the desk and resting his hands on the polished wood. "I have six weeks left to live. I have no living heirs. My eldest son was murdered by my own board of directors in a desperate bid to seize control of my shares upon my death."
He looked at Clara, his grey eyes burning with an intense, haunting light.
"My board members are hyenas, Clara," Walter spat. "They are corrupt, ruthless men who have spent the last year poisoning my legacy, waiting for me to breathe my last breath so they can tear Martin Global apart and sell its assets to foreign syndicates. They think I am weak. They staged an assault on me three days ago—hence the bruise on my face—believing they could force me into signing over my voting rights."
"Why are you telling me this?" Clara demanded, stepping toward the desk, her voice trembling with a mixture of rage and confusion. "You stole my father! You forced my mother to live a lie! I should call the police right now!"
"Call them," Walter said calmly. "Half the police chief's campaign was funded by my shell companies. They will not answer."
He pulled the thick leather folder toward him and opened it, revealing pages covered in legal jargon, asset listings, and corporate share transfers.
"Your father was an honest man, Clara," Walter whispered, his voice cracking with a rare, genuine emotion. "In fifty years of building this blood-soaked empire, Julian Vance was the only man who ever stood in front of me and refused to be bought. I ruined his life out of fear. And ever since his death, my conscience has been a burning furnace."

He pushed a heavy gold pen across the desk toward her.
"This is my final will and testament," Walter declared. "It transfers fifty-one percent of voting control in Martin Global, along with four billion dollars in liquid trusts, directly to you."
