Chapter 5 - The Removal

The double doors swung open less than ten seconds later.
Two large men in black tailored suits stepped onto the marble floor.
Their radio earpieces glinted under the kitchen downlights.
"Sir?" the lead guard asked, his eyes immediately assessing the broken glass on the island.
Julian didn't point. He simply looked at Vanessa.
"You starved my child," Julian said, his words cold and measured. "Remove her from my house."
Vanessa’s head snapped up, her face turning from red to a pale, mottled grey.
"Julian! You can't do this!" she screamed, her composure completely shattering.
"I have a contract! This is my home!"
The two guards moved in with quiet, practiced efficiency.
One took her by the upper arm, while the other stepped between her and Julian.
"Please walk smoothly, ma'am," the guard murmured, his grip firm on her silk sleeve.
Vanessa thrashing against their weight, her heels dragging across the marble, leaving dark scuff marks.
"You're making a mistake!" she shrieked, her voice echoing down the grand hallway as they forced her through the doors.
"You'll hear from my lawyer before nightfall!"
The heavy oak doors clicked shut behind them.

The kitchen fell instantly, violently silent.
