Chapter 10 - The Dawn of Justice

Julian’s face drained of color in an instant. The polished, aristocratic facade shattered, leaving behind the pale, desperate mug of a trapped criminal.

"You're insane," Julian hissed, his hand darting instinctively toward his inner jacket pocket. "You have no proof—"

Before Julian could pull his hand out, the heavy velvet curtains behind Victor’s desk parted.

Two uniformed police officers stepped into the light, followed closely by Detective Vance, who held a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

"Lord Julian Vance," Detective Vance stated coldly. "You are under arrest for attempted murder, conspiracy, and illegal administration of a controlled substance."

Julian backed away, his heels catching on the Persian rug. "Victor! You can't do this! I'm your brother! The Blackwood name will be ruined!"

"The Blackwood name was ruined the night you locked my wife and daughter in a burning building," Victor replied, his voice devoid of any warmth. "Take him away."

As the officers wrestled Julian to the floor and clicked the cold steel cuffs around his wrists, the heavy door opened once more.

Stepping into the warm light of the study was Eleanor, her dark cloak removed, revealing a simple silver gown that matched her glowing eyes. Beside her stood Caleb, his dirty face now washed clean, revealing sharp, handsome features and bright, intelligent eyes.

Julian stared at Eleanor in utter, paralyzed horror, as if seeing a ghost rise from the grave. "You... you were dead..."

"I am very much alive, Julian," Eleanor said softly, walking over to stand beside her husband. "And our family will finally heal."

An hour later, the ballroom was empty. The crystal chandeliers were dimmed to a soft, golden glow, casting warm light across the silent hall.

Victor, Eleanor, and Chloe sat together on the plush velvet sofa near the fireplace, wrapped in a single, warm blanket. Caleb sat nearby on a footstool, drinking a cup of hot chocolate, looking peaceful for the first time in years.

Chloe held her mother’s hand tightly, her small fingers interwoven with Eleanor’s scarred ones, while her feet rested firmly on the rug below.

"Will we stay here, Daddy?" Chloe asked softly, resting her head against Victor’s green velvet shoulder.

Victor looked around the grand hall—no longer a cathedral of oppressive secrets, but a home filled with the promise of a new beginning. He looked at his wife, alive and safe, and at the boy who had brought them all back from the ashes.

"Yes, my darling," Victor whispered, tightening his arm around his family. "We are staying right here. The fire is out."
