Chapter 8 - The Transformation

Inside the warm, quiet sanctuary of the boutique, the atmosphere relaxed instantly. Mr. Vance pulled a soft silk handkerchief from his breast pocket and gently knelt down on one knee in front of his grandson, completely unbothered by the dust that stained his custom trousers.
"You held your ground well, Leo," the old man said, gently wiping the soot and dried tears from the boy's cheeks. "You didn't raise your voice, and you didn't let go of the ring."
The boy looked down at his dirty hands, then up at his grandfather's gentle eyes. "She was very mean, Grandpa. Does everyone treat poor people like that?"
May you like
"Too many do, my boy," Mr. Vance replied softly, tossing the stained silk handkerchief aside. "Which is why you needed to feel it for yourself today. Power without empathy is a disease. Remember how her hand felt on your collar today, so you never put your hand on anyone else's."
Leo nodded solemnly, stepping closer to wrap his small arms around his grandfather's neck. The crowd of onlookers applauded softly, the quiet hum of admiration filling the grand atrium once more.
