Chapter 3 - The Shadow in the Doorway

The heavy oak door of the walk-in closet flew backward.
The brass handle slammed into the drywall, leaving a deep, crushed dent in the plaster.
A tall shadow fell completely over the woman in the white dress.
Heavy, measured footsteps crunched against the marble.
A man in a sharply tailored dark blue suit stepped into the blinding light of the closet.
His silk tie was clipped perfectly into place.
The leather of his heavy belt creaked as he shifted his weight.
He did not look at the blonde woman.
His eyes locked entirely onto the small girl kneeling on the floor.
The vein in the center of his forehead pulsed, a thick, throbbing line beneath his skin.
He stepped over the scuffed black stiletto.
He reached down, gripping the little girl by the shoulders of her white dress, and pulled her smoothly to her feet.
He tucked her completely behind his right leg.

"Don't you ever touch my daughter!"
The baritone of his voice rattled the glass display cases lining the back wall.
