Chapter 11 - The Sub-Level Cipher

Arthur pressed a small hidden catch on the side of the watch casing. The back panel popped open, revealing not gears and springs, but a micro-sized optical storage chip embedded within the brass casing.
"Your father was a brilliant engineer before he studied law, Toby," Arthur said. "This chip contains every recorded phone call, transaction log, and digital footprint from the night your father was murdered."
Marcus Sterling's face drained of color. He slowly backed away from the table, his hand creeping toward the inner pocket of his suit jacket.
"Don't do it, Marcus," Arthur warned softly. "The building is surrounded by federal marshals. The moment I insert this chip into the main terminal, every precinct in the state will receive the arrest warrants."
Before Marcus could pull his hand out, the heavy double doors of the boardroom were kicked open.

State prosecutors and federal agents surged into the room, their badges gleaming under the recessed lighting.
"Marcus Sterling, Evelyn Wright, Thomas Cole," the lead prosecutor announced, unholstering his handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, conspiracy, and the contract murder of Richard Vance."
