Chapter 5 - The Eruption

The man’s arm shot out.

A thick, stubby finger pointed directly at the center of Clara’s face.

The cuff of his white shirt rode up, exposing a heavy gold watch.

"I don't wait for steak!"

The words exploded from his mouth.

It wasn't a scolding. It was a roar.

Saliva flew from his lips, catching the overhead light before landing on Clara’s cheek.

He took a heavy step forward.

His leather sole crunched down on a shard of the water tumbler, grinding it into the oak floor.

"Thirty minutes!"

He jabbed his finger again, the gold watch rattling against his wrist.

"I am paying for a service! Not for incompetence!"

Clara flinched, turning her face away from the barrage.

She pressed her palms against her ears, her shoulders shaking violently.

At the adjacent tables, forks hovered halfway to open mouths.

Men in tailored suits stopped chewing.

Women in silk dresses stared, their eyes wide with a mix of horror and morbid curiosity.

No one moved.

The man in the grey suit swelled, feeding on the absolute power of the paralyzed room.

He inhaled deeply, preparing to unleash another wave of venom.
