Chapter 4 - The Strike

Valentina’s face transformed. The aristocratic, polished facade completely shattered, revealing the ruthless, sociopathic predator beneath. Her lips pulled back into a bitter, venomous sneer.
"You arrogant, self-righteous fool," she hissed, abandoning all pretense of innocence. "You thought I actually loved you? You thought a woman like me would spend her life tending to a broken, paranoid widower who spends his nights crying over his dead wife's paintings?"
Julian froze, the sheer cruelty of her words striking him like a physical blade.
"I rebuilt your life!" Valentina stepped forward, her voice dropping into a raspy, venomous whisper. "I sat by your bedside for four months while you shivered in your own sweat! I earned every single cent of your estate! You think you’re so brilliant, Julian? You didn't even notice the small white tablets in your morning espresso for eighteen months! You were so easy to break—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Julian reached his limit.
A wave of pure, primal rage swept over his mind, eclipsing his rational, scientific brain. The memory of his months in ICU, the agonising pain in his chest, the fear of leaving his daughter an orphan—it all exploded into a single, kinetic impulse.
Julian swung his right hand across the space between them.
SLAP!
The sharp, crackling sound echoed through the high-ceilinged room like thunder.
The force of the strike caught Valentina squarely across the left side of her face. Her head snapped violently to the right, her body stumbling backward into the edge of the dining table. A heavy silver candelabra fell over, sending wax splashing across the tablecloth and plunging half the room into shadow.
Valentina gasped, clutching her left cheek with both hands.
When she straightened up, the pristine white skin of her cheek was already rising into a dark, angry, swollen red welt. Her hair had pulled free from its elegant chignon, hanging in dark, disheveled strands around her flushed face. Her emerald earring swung violently against her neck.
She looked at Julian with wide, unblinking eyes filled with a terrifying combination of shock and absolute, psychotic hatred.

"You hit me," she whispered, her voice trembling not with fear, but with an insane, murderous thrill.
"Get out of my house," Julian said, his hand shaking as he pointed toward the door. "Get out before I kill you with my bare hands."
