Chapter 10 - The Threshold

A low, dramatic instrumental swell seemed to resonate through the air as the tension reached its absolute breaking point. Clara slowly raised her hands, not in surrender, but as an open invitation, a gesture of supreme contempt for their authority.

"The keys are on the hook by the pantry door," Clara said smoothly, her voice cutting through the heavy silence like a razor blade. She turned her profile toward Richard, her expression carved from stone. "Let's go see what your precious house is really hiding, Mr. Sterling."

Without waiting for his permission, she turned on her heel and walked past him, her light blue uniform brushing against his tailored suit. She left Richard standing alone in the center of the foyer, staring after her with a dawning sense of dread, while Eleanor wept against the polished wood floor. The illusion of absolute control had shattered, and as Clara stepped toward the shadows of the hallway, she knew the real game was only just beginning.
