Chapter 6 - The Unblinking Eye

The silence inside the grand hallway grew suffocatingly thick. Julian held his son close, feeling the fast, erratic rhythm of the child's heart beating against his chest. The horror of the situation pressed down on him—his own son had been buried alive behind sheetrock, living like a phantom inside the very house Julian walked every day.

The boy pulled his head back from Julian's shoulder. The panic in his eyes had subsided, replaced by an eerie, unnerving composure that belonged to someone who had spent months observing the world from the dark.

Slowly, the child uncurled his left hand, which had remained clenched tight against his body.

Resting in his dirty, scratched palm was a small, rectangular black voice recorder. On the top corner of the device, a tiny red LED light blinked steadily, casting a rhythmic red glow against his skin.

The boy raised the small black recorder high, holding it out toward his father and the silent crowd of onlookers. His face was solemn, completely stripped of any childish innocence.

"I record every secret," the boy whispered softly, his raspy voice cutting through the gallery with absolute clarity.
