Chapter 14

The morning sun was fully risen by the time Maya’s sedan pulled back into the circular gravel driveway of the suburban estate. As they stepped out of the vehicle, they saw Arthur’s sleek black town car already parked near the front steps, alongside a sheriff’s cruiser with its amber light bar dark against the bright autumn sky.

The front door opened before they even reached the porch. Arthur stepped out into the crisp morning air, holding his signature briefcase and a fresh blue legal folder, accompanied by a middle-aged county deputy whose uniform was crisp and pressed. Arthur’s professional demeanor remained unshaken, but there was a subtle glint of satisfaction in his eyes as he met Maya’s gaze.

"Good morning, Miss Faraz. Tom," Arthur greeted them calmly, nodding toward the bankers' boxes Maya and the old groundskeeper were carrying between them. "I see you found the boathouse archives."

"Every single page," Maya replied steadily, walking past them and into the grand foyer where Eleanor had banished her less than twenty-four hours ago.

Inside the living room, Eleanor was pacing near the fireplace, dressed in a fresh pantsuit, her pinstripe blazer draped neatly over an armchair. Her face flushed with immediate rage when she saw Maya and Tom enter carrying the boxes, flanked by the deputy and the attorney.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Eleanor shrieked, her carefully cultivated composure finally shattering completely. She pointed a trembling finger at the deputy. "This woman is a trespasser! I want her removed from my property immediately! Arthur, do your job!"

Arthur didn't even blink. He opened his blue folder, sliding out a thick stack of certified documents and handing them directly to the county deputy. "Actually, Mrs. Vance, these are forensic records of corporate asset diversion and forged medical power of attorney, certified as of three hours ago by the county magistrate."

Eleanor froze, the color draining from her face as she stared at the deputy, who was already reaching for his citation book. The silence in the room was absolute, heavy with the undeniable weight of justice finally arriving at the front door.
