Chapter 1 - The Strike in the Silk Room

The afternoon sun filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vantage estate, casting golden beams across the polished hardwood floors of the formal living room. Moldings of antique plaster edged the high ceilings, and plush silk rugs absorbed the subtle whispers of wind from the gardens outside. It was a space designed for quiet privilege, for softly spoken tea-time conversations, and for the effortless display of generational wealth.
Yet, the air inside the room felt frozen, thick with a suffocating, violent humidity.
Cowering beside the beige velvet sofa was Clara, her small frame curled into a tight, protective ball. She wore a simple cream knit sweater set, now smudged with dust from the floor. Her hands were clamped over her ears, her knuckles white with tension, her shoulders heaving with stifled, ragged sobs. She did not dare look up.
Standing directly over her was Julian. His white dress shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, sleeves rolled up past his forearms, revealing veins bulging with unbridled rage. His dark trousers were immaculate, matching the arrogant posture of a man who believed he was beyond accountability. In his right hand, he held a thick, dark leather strap, its surface worn smooth by intent.
"You'll learn to obey me," Julian whispered, his voice dropping into a flat, deadly monotone that carried no warmth, no mercy.
He raised his arm. The leather strap sliced through the quiet air with a sharp, sickening hiss.
CLACK.
The strap caught the shoulder of Clara’s sweater, leaving a harsh red streak across her neck. She let out a tiny, choked scream, her head twisting violently into the side of the sofa. Tears streamed down her cheeks, staining the pale upholstery.
Julian took a slow, deliberate step forward, his polished shoes creaking on the floorboards. "Did you really think your father's money protected you in this house? Did you think a ring on your finger gave you a voice?"
He raised the leather strap again, his arm cocked back to deliver another blow. High above them, on the glass decorative table in the center of the room, a bowl of handcrafted porcelain Easter eggs sat completely still—a quiet witness to the nightmare unfolding beneath it.
Julian sneered, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. "Look at me when I speak to you, Clara."

Clara shook her head rapidly, burying her face deeper into her arms. "Please... Julian, no more..."
"Look at me!" he roared, swinging his arm down with brutal momentum.
