Chapter 12 - The Phoenix Firm

In the weeks following Julian's arrest, the fallout swept through the financial and social circles of the state like a wildfire.

The Vantage Corporation, hit by the public scandal and an immediate series of severe financial audits initiated by Marcus’s legal team, folded under the weight of its own corruption. Julian's assets were frozen by court order to secure the civil damages owed to Clara.

At Vance International Security headquarters downtown, Marcus sat in his top-floor executive office overlooking the city skyline.

Across the wide glass desk sat Clara. The red mark on her neck had faded completely, replaced by a renewed sense of strength. She wore a sharp charcoal business suit, her hair pulled back into a sleek, professional ponytail, holding a leather folder containing legal documents.

"The divorce is finalized, Dad," Clara said, placing the documents on his desk. "The court granted a permanent restraining order. The Vantage name is officially stripped from every property."

Marcus looked up from his computer monitor, his eyes softening as he looked at his daughter. "How do you feel?"

Clara looked out the high windows at the sunlit city below. A quiet, genuine smile touched her lips—the first real smile Marcus had seen on her face in over two years.

"I feel like I can breathe again," she whispered. "For two years, I thought I was trapped in that house. I thought if I spoke up, it would ruin everything."

"Fear is a cage, Clara," Marcus said, leaning across the desk to take her hand. "But you broke the lock the second you tapped 'record' on that phone."
