Chapter 4 - The Order at the Gate

Outside the main house, the manicured lawns of the Vantage estate were filled with dozens of high-society guests. Ladies in pastel summer dresses and men in linen suits stood under white silk tents, sipping champagne and listening to a live string quartet. They were completely oblivious to the violence that had just shattered the living room upstairs.

The heavy glass patio doors opened.

Marcus stepped out onto the sunlit terrace, carrying Clara safely in his arms. Her head was tucked beneath his chin, wrapped in his heavy navy overshirt to hide her tear-stained face and the red mark on her neck from the staring crowd. Eleanor followed closely behind, her hands clutching her daughter's cracked phone to her chest.

Marcus walked past the stunned guests, his stride long, deliberate, and utterly devoid of hesitation. Whispers broke out among the crowd as they saw the blood on his knuckles and the grim, terrifying expression on his face.

He carried Clara down the wide marble steps toward the estate's heavy iron gates. Setting her down gently on a velvet bench inside the security pavilion, he looked at his wife.

"Stay with her," Marcus commanded softly. "Lock the glass doors from the inside."

Eleanor nodded, tears welling in her eyes as she pulled Clara close.

Marcus turned and walked out onto the gravel driveway. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a heavy black leather tactical case. He unlatched the steel snaps and pulled out a high-powered military-grade radio transceiver.

He held the device to his lips, his thumb pressing the side-bar switch.

"Code Black," Marcus said into the microphone. His voice was steady, flat, and chilling. "I repeat. Code Black at the Vantage Estate. Full containment."

Three seconds of absolute silence hung in the humid afternoon air.

Then, from down the long oak-lined driveway, the sound of roaring engines shattered the quiet of the estate.

Four heavy, matte-black SUVs rounded the curved iron gates at dangerous speeds, their tires screeching against the gravel. They pulled up in a tight tactical formation, blocking every vehicle exit, kicking up clouds of dust and sending the wealthy party guests screaming and scattering in terror across the lawn.
