Chapter 13 - The Legacy of Glass

Victor reached into his pocket, pulling out a sleek black leather folder. He laid it gently in Clara’s lap.

Clara looked at it in confusion. "What's this?"

"Open it," Victor said softly.

Clara unzips the folder. Inside was a legal document stamped with the seal of the Vance Foundation—a multi-million-dollar non-profit organization that Victor had restructured over the past two months.

At the top of the document, printed in bold, elegant lettering, were the words:

THE CLARA & SARAH VANCE SANCTUARY FOR CHILDREN

Clara’s breath caught in her throat. She looked up at Victor, her dark eyes wide with shock.

"What is this?" she whispered.

"It's a foundation," Victor explained, his voice rich with emotion. "We bought the old estate on the northern ridge—the twenty-acre property with the gardens. We are converting it into a state-of-the-art emergency shelter and rehabilitation center for victims of domestic abuse and child endangerment."

He reached out, his warm, strong hand covering hers on the legal document.

"I appointed you as the Executive Director," Victor continued. "You will have complete authority over the staff, the security, and the programs. No child who enters those gates will ever be silenced. No one will ever tell them that 'no one will believe them.'"

Tears welled up in Clara’s eyes, but they were no longer tears of fear or grief. They were tears of profound, overwhelming joy.

"Victor..." Clara choked out, her voice trembling. "This... this is incredible."

"It's what Sarah would have wanted," Victor said, looking toward the portrait on the wall. "And it's what you deserve, Clara. You saved my family. You gave my son a future. This is the least I can do to honor what you've done."
