Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of Shade

The federal trial of the Rosewood Syndicate began sixty days later in the United States District Court.

Marcus Vance sat at the defense table in a wheelchair, his face wrapped in skin-graft bandages, his eyes hollowed out by the absolute collapse of his corporate empire. Around him sat seven senior executives, their high-priced defense attorneys sitting in stunned silence as the prosecution played the decrypted video recordings recovered from the flower shop's basement.

On the high-definition courtroom monitors, Eleanor Vance’s face appeared—identical to Clara’s, but framed by tired lines and warm, protective eyes.

"If you are watching this," Eleanor’s recorded voice echoed through the silent courtroom, "it means my daughter Lily has successfully survived long enough to find her aunt. The Rosewood patent is not a weapon. It is a targeted gene therapy for pediatric cardiac failure. Marcus tried to weaponize it. I locked the master code inside Lily's biological DNA sequence."

A collective gasp swept through the gallery.

Clara sat at the prosecutor's table, her arm resting around Lily’s shoulders. She looked down at the child, realization washing over her with terrifying clarity: the silver key hadn't been the real lock. Lily herself was the vault.
