Chapter 15 - The Bloom in the Sunlight

One year later, the annual Midsummer Floral Festival returned to Oak Street.

The sidewalks were crowded with colorful stalls, live acoustic music, and families strolling under the bright, clear sky. In front of the Eleanor Vance Research Center, a massive garden bed filled with thousands of deep red roses bloomed in brilliant defiance of the past.

Lily stood near the center fountain, holding a small metal bucket filled with freshly cut flowers. She was nine now, taller, her face bright with health and clear laughter.

A young mother walking past stopped with her little boy, looking down at the display.

"Would you like a rose, ma'am?" Lily asked with a bright, warm smile, holding out a long-stemmed red bloom.

The woman smiled back, reaching into her purse. "They are beautiful, sweetheart. I'll take two."

Across the plaza, standing near the entrance of the research center, Clara watched them with a quiet, unshakeable pride. The dark thriller of their past had finally closed its pages, leaving behind only the enduring light of a promise kept, a debt paid, and a bloom that would never fade.
