Chapter 3 - The Vertical Axis

Viktor took a involuntary step back, his right wrist tingling from the sharp, precise force of the girl's block. His mind reeled. That wasn't a panicked dodge. It was a textbook, high-level deflection from an ancient lineage of close-quarters combat—a technique taught only to elite military operatives and grandmasters.
"Who taught you?" Viktor barked, his voice cracking, his pride burning like acid in his throat.
Emma didn't answer. Her expression remained blank, her pale blue eyes tracking the subtle shift in his shoulders, the tension in his thighs, the rhythm of his pulse visible in his neck.
Rage overrode Viktor’s judgment. He stepped in aggressively, lowering his center of gravity, throwing a heavy, sweeping hook intended to take her off her feet.
Emma didn't block this time.
She ducked underneath the arc of his arm with fluid, terrifying efficiency. As Viktor overextended, swinging into empty air, she pivoted on her left heel.
Her right leg snapped upward in a perfect, fluid vertical arc—a lightning-fast kick that rose straight up the centerline of his body, her bare heel stopping exactly one millimeter from the bridge of Viktor’s nose.
The wind from her kick ruffled the silver hair on his forehead.
Viktor froze. The sheer physical perfection of the strike—the balance, the speed, the lethal precision—forced his instincts into survival mode. His knees buckled, and he dropped heavily onto one knee on the beige mat, staring up at the bottom of her foot.
The room fell into dead silence. The students sat paralyzed. Sarah held her breath, her hand pressed over her mouth.
Viktor looked up into the eyes of the eleven-year-old girl hovering above him like an executioner.
"Who taught you?" Viktor whispered again, his confidence entirely shattered, his chest heaving. "Who... are you?"

Emma slowly lowered her leg, planting her foot back onto the mat with silent grace.
"My father," she said softly. "And you helped murder him."
