Chapter 10 - The Trigger Point

The air in the garage turned to ice. The rain outside seemed to slow down, every drop echoing like a ticking clock against the tin roof. Arthur’s finger tightened on the trigger, his face twisted in a mask of pure desperation.

"You ruined my life!" Arthur howled.

BANG.

The gunshot shattered the silence of the room. A flash of light illuminated the shadowy garage.

In a fraction of a second, Julian moved. Years of high-level martial training took over. He stepped inside the line of fire, his hand striking Arthur’s wrist with brutal efficiency to deflect the barrel upward. The bullet struck a high steel beam, sending sparks raining down onto the concrete floor.

Before Arthur could pull the trigger a second time, Julian delivered a devastating strike to the older man's solar plexus, followed by a swift sweep of his leg. Arthur crashed heavily onto the wet floor, the revolver skittering across the oil-stained concrete right to the feet of Hector Vance.

Hector picked up the gun with the tip of his cane, his face showing absolute disdain.

"Pathetic," Hector muttered.

Julian stood over Arthur, chest heaving, his dark eyes looking down at the broken man. Then, he slowly turned around to look at Clara.

She was standing against the wall, trembling, looking at Julian not with love, but with terrifying realization. She saw the speed, the cold violence, and the utter lack of hesitation in his actions. The sweet, humble mechanic who fixed her car had disappeared entirely. In his place stood a predator.

"Clara..." Julian reached out.

"Don't touch me," she whispered, backing away toward the rain-soaked night. "You're just like him. You're all monsters."

She turned and ran out into the storm, her footsteps fading into the dark.

Julian made a move to follow her, but Hector’s heavy hand gripped his shoulder, tight as a steel vise.

"Let her go, Julian," Hector said softly, his voice devoid of pity. "She knows the truth now. The illusion is broken. And now, my son... it is time for you to return home."

Julian looked down at his clean hands, then at the dirty gray jumpsuit lying on the floor. The game was over. The kingdom was waiting.
