Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of Silence

The private Vance estate sat high atop the cliffs overlooking the dark, restless expanse of the Pacific Ocean. It was a fortress of glass, steel, and cold gray stone—a monument to power that stood far away from the grease-stained reality of Blackwood Auto Repair.

Three days had passed since the night in the garage.

Julian stood in the expansive library on the second floor, dressed in a tailored charcoal suit that fit him like armor. The rain battered the floor-to-ceiling windows, mirroring the violent storm brewing inside his mind. In his hand, he held a glass of untouched scotch.

Behind him, the heavy oak doors opened. Hector walked in, his silver-headed cane clicking rhythmically against the polished marble floor.

"Arthur Pendelton surrendered his remaining shares this morning," Hector announced coldly, sliding a document across the massive mahogany desk. "His real estate firm is officially a subsidiary of Vance Global. The media has been informed that he retired due to sudden health concerns. No questions asked. No loose ends."

Julian didn't turn around. His gaze remained fixed on the white foam crashing against the black rocks below. "And Clara?"

"She has relocated to a private property in Vermont," Hector said, his tone dry and matter-of-fact. "Her accounts have been funded generously. She will want for nothing—provided she maintains absolute discretion regarding our family affairs."

"You bought her silence," Julian said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

"I bought her survival," Hector corrected, taking a seat in his high-backed leather chair. "In our world, Julian, those who know too much are liabilities. Be thankful I showed her mercy because of your sentimentality."

Julian slowly turned around, his eyes piercing through the dim light of the library. "It wasn't sentimentality, Father. It was the only thing keeping me human."
