Chapter 13 - The Chessboard Flips

The silence in the library became suffocating. Outside, a flash of lightning illuminated the room, casting long, sharp shadows across the marble floor.
"Are you threatening me, Julian?" Hector asked, his voice low and vibrating with dangerous intent.
"Threatening you? No," Julian replied smoothly, straightening his suit jacket. "I'm taking control. You built the Vance empire on fear, extortion, and isolation. You forced me into this mold, Father. You proved to me that the only way to protect what I care about is to possess absolute power."
Hector rose slowly from his chair, using his cane for support, his eyes burning with fury. "You think you can outmaneuver me? I built this empire from nothing!"
"And you grew old inside it," Julian countered without flinching. "The board of directors signed the proxy agreements an hour ago. They believe you are stepping down due to your failing health. Exactly like Arthur Pendelton."
Hector froze. The realization hit him like a physical blow. The grey-suited operatives standing guard outside the library doors were no longer taking orders from the old titan. They were taking orders from the prince who had learned how to play the long game.

"You calculated this..." Hector whispered, realization dawning in his eyes. "From the moment you let Arthur hit you in that shop..."
"I needed a catalyst," Julian admitted softly. "I needed Arthur to act out so you would reveal yourself. I needed you to step into the light where I could trap you both."
