Chapter 14 - THE MASTER’S PAINTBRUSH

Spring 2030. Three years later.

The ocean breeze blew softly over the high cliffs of Montauk, Long Island.

Sitting on a wooden porch overlooking the crashing blue waves of the Atlantic was a beautiful wooden art studio. Inside, sunlight streamed through massive skylights, illuminating tall canvases covered in vibrant, stunning oil paintings of ocean landscapes and coastal sunrises.

Eleanor Vance stood before a large canvas, a wooden palette in her left hand, a paintbrush in her right. She wore a simple canvas apron over a blue linen dress, her blonde hair caught in the bright morning sunlight.

The front door of the studio swung open.

Ten-year-old Leo ran inside, carrying a golden retriever puppy in his arms, his face flushed with laughter and fresh air.

"Mummy! Look!" Leo shouted, setting the playful puppy down on the wooden floorboards. "Arthur found him near the beach trail!"

Behind Leo walked Arthur Pendelton—now retired from his security duties, wearing a comfortable tweed jacket, carrying a basket of fresh peaches from the local market.

"He followed us all the way from the cove, Eleanor," Arthur said with a warm, gentle smile.

Eleanor set her palette down on her workbench. She walked over, kneeling down beside Leo, wrapping her arm around his shoulders as the golden puppy licked his cheek, causing the boy to giggle uncontrollably.

"Can we keep him, Mummy?" Leo begged, looking up at her with his bright blue eyes—eyes filled with pure, unburdened happiness.

Eleanor looked into his face. There were no hotel uniforms here. No marble gala floors. No corporate syndicates, court injunctions, or dark delivery rooms. There was only the warm sun, the sound of the ocean, and the laughter of her child.

"Yes, sweetheart," Eleanor smiled, kissing his forehead softly. "We can keep him."
