Chapter 6 - THE ANATOMY OF A TRAP

The grand ballroom of the Bellevue Grand Hotel collapsed into complete, unmitigated chaos.
Victoria lay crumpled on the marble floor among her scattered pearls, her hands clawing at her emerald dress, her face wet with tears as she looked up at Julian in absolute horror.
"Julian..." Victoria sobbed, her high-society composure completely destroyed, her voice echoing pathetically off the high walls. "You promised me... You told me the surrogate died during surgery! You swore to me on your father's memory!"
Julian down at her, his face as cold and unyielding as a tombstone.
"I lied to you, Victoria," Julian said, his voice flat, devoid of a single drop of remorse. "Because you are weak, vain, and obsessed with superficial standing. You needed a child to secure your trust fund, and I needed an heir to secure control of the board. I provided both. But you treated him like an accessory—a prop to show off at galas."
The surrounding socialites gasped again, several board members of Sterling Global stepping back in disgust, their faces pale as they realized they were standing in the middle of a massive federal crime scene.
"Security!" the hotel general manager screamed into his radio, rushing forward with four uniformed guards. "Clear the room! Shut down the main entrance! Nobody leaves!"
Julian didn't even look at the manager. He reached into his grey suit jacket, pulled out an encrypted matte-black smartphone, and tapped the screen once.
From the corners of the room, four tall men in tailored dark-grey suits—Julian’s private security detail—stepped forward smoothly. They did not move toward Eleanor or Julian. Instead, they formed a stone-faced perimeter around Eleanor, Leo, and Julian, intercepting the hotel security guards and flashing federal credentials that stopped the manager cold.
Eleanor slowly stood up from the floor. Her knees were sore, her maid uniform was rumpled, but as she drew herself up to her full height, her posture carried a fierce, terrifying majesty that made her look larger than anyone else in the room.
She stepped over the scattered pearls, putting her body directly between Victoria and Leo. She reached down, taking Leo’s small, cold hand into her own rough palm.
"You took my son, Julian," Eleanor said, her clear sky-blue eyes locking onto Julian’s dark gaze. Her voice was steady, cutting through the background cries of Victoria like a steel blade. "You stole my life."
Julian looked at her. For a brief fraction of a second, the cold stone of his face shifted. A subtle, dangerous flicker of respect passed through his dark eyes as he took in her appearance—the maid uniform, the rough hands, and the absolute, unyielding fire burning in her gaze.
"I gave him an empire, Eleanor," Julian answered quietly. "I gave him protection, wealth, and a name that commands respect across four continents."
"You gave him a cage!" Eleanor spat back, her fingers tightening around Leo’s hand. "And a fake mother who doesn't even know his favorite color!"
Leo looked up at Eleanor, his small fingers clinging to her hand with a desperate, white-knuckled grip. "Mummy... don't let them take me away again... please."

Eleanor looked down at him, her face softening instantly, her eyes filling with a fierce, unconditional warmth.
"Nobody is taking you anywhere, Leo," she whispered softly. "I'm right here."
