Chapter 15 - A Horizon of Light

Three months later.

The small coastal town of Oak Harbor sat two hundred miles south of Blackwood Manor, nestled in a gentle, sun-drenched valley filled with rolling pine hills and quiet, calm inland lakes.

At the end of a quiet, tree-lined street stood a charming, two-story craftsman house with a wide front porch, bright white trim, and large, sunlit windows that looked out over a vibrant flower garden. There were no high walls. No iron gates. No sheer stone cliffs dropping into a violent sea.

Arthur sat on the wooden steps of the front porch, holding a warm cup of coffee in his hands. He was wearing a comfortable gray sweater and jeans, his face relaxed, the dark circles beneath his eyes finally gone. The scars on his hands had faded into thin, silver lines—permanent reminders of the night he had fought through hell to save his family.

Down on the green lawn, Lily and Clara were running through the autumn leaves, their bright laughter echoing through the quiet neighborhood air. Lily’s cheeks were rosy with health, her eyes bright and filled with life, her nightmarish fears of the dark slowly dissolving under the gentle care of a new beginning.

Maria stepped out onto the porch, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade, smiling as she watched the girls play.

Arthur looked up at the warm, golden sunlight streaming through the pine trees above.

The memory of Eleanor, the horrific night in the cellar, and the burning mansion of Blackwood were no longer monsters that haunted his dreams. They had become distant, fading shadows—lessons forged in fire about the true strength of a father's love and the unyielding resilience of the human spirit.

He set his coffee cup down, stood up from the porch steps, and walked down onto the bright, sunlit lawn to join his daughters in the leaves.

The ghosts of the past were finally laid to rest. The future had begun.
