Elena and Maya walked hand-in-hand along the waterfront promenade near the hotel. The cold rain from a year ago was gone, replaced by a gentle, warm sea breeze that rustled the leaves of the palm trees lining the walkway.
In the distance, the Vance Tower stood dark against the skyline, its signage removed, its corporate reign permanently ended.

"Yes, my love?"
"Are you still afraid?"
Elena stopped, dropping to one knee on the warm stone pavement. She looked into her daughter's clear, bright eyes—the eyes that had given her the strength to strike back against a tyrant in a room full of millionaires.

"No, Maya," Elena said, her voice filled with an absolute, unbreakable peace. "I am not afraid anymore. We earned our place in the light."
