Chapter 3 - The Patriarch's Intervention

"How dare you hit my mother!"
The thunderous shout tore through the kitchen doorway before the man himself stepped into the room.
Ethan stood in the entrance, his broad frame filling the doorway. He wore an immaculate white dress shirt, tucked neatly into dark tailored trousers, his leather shoes gleaming under the doorway light. His dark hair was combed back with precision, his handsome, symmetrical face twisted into a terrifying display of authority and indignation.
He didn't look at his weeping daughter on the floor. He didn't look at the discarded leather collar resting against the wall. His eyes were locked entirely on Evelyn, burning with a cold, controlling fury.
Ethan strode across the kitchen with long, powerful strides, pushing past Evelyn to crouch beside his mother. He placed a steady, protective hand on Clara's shoulder, helping the older woman push herself up into a standing position against the white counter.
"Are you alright, Mother?" Ethan asked, his voice softening into an eerie, soothing tone as he inspected the red mark on Clara's face.
"I am fine, Ethan," Clara whispered, placing her hand over his. "She attacked me. She broke into the room like a madwoman."
Ethan turned slowly to face Evelyn. He loomed over her and the crying child, his height casting a dark, imposing shadow over them on the bright floor tiles.
"Have you completely lost your mind, Evelyn?" Ethan demanded, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous register that sent a shiver of terror straight down Evelyn's spine. "You lay your hands on my mother in her own home? You come into this house acting like an unhinged lunatic?!"
Evelyn stared up at her husband, her heart pounding against her ribs like a trapped bird. The man she had married four years ago—the attentive, quiet executive who had promised to shield her from the world—looked like a complete stranger.
"Look at the floor, Ethan!" Evelyn screamed, pointing a trembling finger at the discarded leash. "She had a leash on your daughter! She had a dog collar pinned around Lily's neck! She was treating our baby like an animal!"

Ethan didn't even glance at the leash. His expression remained cold, unmoving, completely unbothered by her revelation.
"My mother was disciplining our child," Ethan said flatly, his words ringing out with a terrifying, clinical indifference. "Lily lacks structure. You have spoiled her, Evelyn. You refuse to let her learn her place."
