Chapter 2 - The Facade of Innocence

Chloe flinched violently at the sound of Arthur's voice. The sudden intrusion acted like an electric shock, freezing her arm mid-swing. For a microsecond, her eyes flared with a lethal, frustrated rage—the look of a predator robbed of its kill at the final second.

Then, with calculated, terrifying precision, the monster vanished.

Chloe lowered her arms in a smooth, unhurried motion, her wrists relaxing as the heavy mahogany candlestick descended to rest harmlessly against the polished white quartz of the kitchen island. As she rotated her body to face Arthur and the camera angle, her shoulders dropped into a delicate, defenseless posture. The harsh, lethal contortion of her facial features melted away, replaced instantaneously by a nervous, wide-eyed pout. A soft, artificial giggle escaped her throat, her lips curving into a pathetic, pleading smile that was meant to project child-like innocence.

She reached up with her left hand, brushing a stray lock of blonde hair behind her ear, her green satin shirt rustling softly in the quiet room.

"Honey! You're back early," Chloe purred, her tone shifting seamlessly into a breathy, sweet cadence that felt grotesquely out of place in the high-voltage atmosphere. She raised her hands in a helpless, disarming gesture, gesturing faintly toward the trembling old woman in the wheelchair. "I was just scaring her. She keeps stealing my things."

Her explanation floated through the warm kitchen air—casual, dismissive, and utterly insane. She presented the violent act not as a crime, but as a harmless domestic dispute, framing Eleanor—a woman who could barely raise a teacup without assistance—as an active thief tormenting her stepdaughter-in-law.
