Chloe stood pinned against the white woodwork, her back pressed flat against the cabinet doors as if she were trying to melt through the wall to escape.

Her eyes darted frantically from side to side in an extreme close-up. She looked at Arthur, whose face was inches from hers across the island, his eyes burning with absolute hatred. She flicked her gaze toward Sarah, the nurse, who was now quietly tapping a sequence into her smartphone behind Eleanor’s wheelchair. The bright, warm lighting of the luxury kitchen no longer felt inviting; it felt like the harsh, unyielding spotlights of an interrogation room. The trap had sprung, and for the first time in her life, Chloe Sterling was utterly, completely out of options.
