Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Light

Ten minutes later, Maya stepped out through the grand front entrance of the Sterling Estate.
The cool, crisp evening air washed over her face, instantly cutting through the heavy, suffocating scent of lilies and expensive perfume that filled the mansion. Below her, at the foot of the wide stone steps, a sleek black sedan sat idling along the circular driveway, its headlights cutting through the light mist hanging over the manicured lawns.
Maya paused at the top of the stairs, looking up at the dark, starless sky. Her cheek still throbbed with a dull heat, but inside her chest, a new, unbreakable fire burned bright. She held her brown leather bag tightly against her side, feeling the simple, honest weight of her own life inside it.
The driver stepped out of the vehicle, opening the rear door with profound respect as she descended the steps.
"Where to, Miss Maya?" the driver asked softly.
Maya slid onto the comfortable leather seat, looking back one last time at the grand, illuminated windows of the Sterling Estate. The warm golden light streaming from the lobby—the light that had once seemed so terrifying and untouchable—now looked fragile and small against the vast expanse of the night.

"Home," Maya said softly, her lips curving into a genuine, confident smile. "Take me home."
As the sedan accelerated smoothly down the long, private driveway toward the opened iron gates, Maya knew that her life would never be the same. The cage of her invisibility had been broken, her name had been cleared, and as the car merged onto the open highway toward the glowing city skyline, she knew she was finally stepping into her own light.
