Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Marble

Six months later.
The Sterling Estate had changed. The cold, rigid formality that had characterized the mansion for generations had been gently dismantled. The high-contrast, icy lighting in the grand foyer was replaced by warm, natural wood accents and large, vibrant paintings of coastlines and forests.
The heavy black leather whip that Victoria Vance had wielded was now locked away in a police evidence vault, a forgotten relic of a trial that had dominated the news for weeks before ending in her conviction and imprisonment.
Vance Bio-Tech had been completely liquidated, its assets purchased at bargain prices by a charitable healthcare trust that Julian had established in memory of Leo's mother, Clara.
It was a bright spring morning.
Julian stood on the marble steps of the grand entrance hall, watching Leo run across the lush green lawn outside, chasing a young golden retriever puppy that bounced excitedly through the grass. Martha sat on a wooden bench nearby, knitting a small blue sweater while keeping a watchful, loving eye on the boy.
Julian leaned against the open mahogany doorframe, taking a deep breath of the sweet, crisp spring air.
He looked down at his own hand—the hand that had once been consumed by business contracts, financial projections, and cold corporate strategy. He had spent years believing that strength meant control, that dominance was achieved through power and fear.
He had been wrong.
Real strength was the hands that shielded a child from a descending blow. Real strength was the courage to tear down an empire to protect a single innocent life.
"Daddy! Come look!" Leo's clear voice called out from the lawn. He was holding up a small, yellow dandelion he had picked from the grass, his face lit up by a brilliant, radiant smile. "Look what I found for you!"
Julian smiled—a genuine, deep smile that reached his eyes and warmed his entire soul.

"I'm coming, Leo," Julian called back, his voice steady, strong, and full of love.
He walked down the marble steps, leaving the shadows of the past behind him, stepping out into the bright, endless light of the world he had fought to build for his son.
