Chapter 3 - The Gold Watch

The light from the grand crystal chandelier hanging forty feet above cast long, sharp shadows across the black-and-white tiles.

Slowly, deliberately, Julian reached out his right arm. Prominent on his broad wrist was a heavy, custom-crafted solid gold Patek Philippe timepiece, its polished surface reflecting the chandelier's amber glow.

In a tight, focused moment of quiet terror, the physical reality of his anger became visible: the thick muscles of Julian’s forearm were locked tight as iron cords, and his large, calloused hand trembled with a primitive, dangerous adrenaline. He was a man who had spent his life controlling vast corporate empires, navigating high-stakes geopolitical defense contracts, and cold-blooded board negotiations. But here, in the heart of his own home, the civilized veneer was burning away, revealing the raw, brutal instincts of a guardian whose offspring had been threatened.

Julian extended two fingers and gently placed them against his son's tiny chest.

The three-month-old infant, sensing the immense heat and familiar weight of his father’s hand, shifted his small body on the cold floor. The baby’s frantic crying began to subside into tiny, rhythmic hiccups. Instinctively, the child reached up with his microscopic, trembling fingers, grabbing hold of the thick gold band of Julian’s watch, clinging to the cold metal as if it were the only anchor in a chaotic world.

Julian closed his eyes for five long seconds. He absorbed the feeling of his son’s heartbeat pulsing against his fingers—fast, fragile, but alive.

When he opened his eyes, the warmth of fatherhood had entirely disappeared from his face. His irises were cold, dark, and veined with faint red threads of unadulterated fury. The mask of the refined billionaire titan was gone. In its place sat a judge, a jury, and an executioner.

He turned his head slowly, locking his gaze onto his young wife.

Victoria reflexively flinched backward, her hand sliding off his shoulder as if she had touched an electric wire. For the first time since Julian had thundered through the front doors, the smug, manipulative confidence in her pale eyes cracked, exposing a flash of raw, subterranean terror.

"Julian..." she stammered, her voice dropping an octave as she pulled her sleeveless white gown tightly around her chest. "Julian, look at me... you know me... I am your wife..."
