Chapter 7 - The Bloodline

The projector fell silent, holding a frozen frame of Victoria’s striking hand suspended over the battered maid. The stark blue light washed over the study, highlighting the sweat glistening on Victoria’s forehead.
"I installed an encrypted, military-grade surveillance network throughout Ravencrest six months ago," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he leaned his hands flat on the mahogany desk. "Not because I doubted Martha's integrity... but because I recognized what you were from the moment I met you in Geneva."
Victoria stared at him, her lips trembling, unable to form a coherent sentence.
"You are a sociopath, Victoria," Julian continued coldly. "You believed you were playing a high-stakes game of manipulation. You thought you could marry an older titan, eliminate his living memory, secure a place in his will, and eventually harvest his wealth once he passed. You viewed my son not as a human being, but as a financial competitor for the Sterling estate."
"Julian... please!" Victoria fell to her knees on the thick Persian rug, her hands coming up in a desperate, pleading gesture, her polished composure completely shattered. "I was overwhelmed! I have been suffering from severe post-partum depression! You were always away on business! The isolation of this house drove me mad! I didn't know what I was doing! I need help, Julian! Medical help!"
"You do not have post-partum depression, Victoria," a quiet voice spoke from the shadowed corner of the study.
Martha Vance stepped out from behind a bookshelf, holding a cold compress against her swollen, bruised eye. Her good eye looked down at Victoria with a mixture of profound disgust and cold pity.
"You cannot have post-partum depression for a child you did not bear," Martha said softly.
Victoria froze instantly, her eyes widening in absolute, paralyzing horror. She snapped her head toward Julian. "What... what did she say?"
Julian stood tall behind his desk, looking down at her as if she were a insect under a microscope.
"Leo is not your biological son, Victoria," Julian revealed, every word falling like a lead weight onto the carpet. "He is the child of my late wife, Clara, preserved through cryo-embryonics before her death three years ago. You were selected by my legal team and medical board to serve strictly as a gestational surrogate under a confidential corporate contract. Your marriage to me was a legal fiction—a temporary arrangement designed to satisfy the strict hereditary clauses of the Sterling Family Trust until the child reached his first birthday."
Victoria stared at him, her mouth opening and closing soundlessly. The grand, elaborate fantasy she had nursed for two years—the belief that she held the ultimate biological leverage over a billionaire’s dynasty—collapsed into ash.

"You... you used me," she whispered, her voice rising into a hysterical screech. "You made me a vessel! You lied to me!"
"You signed a thirty-page non-disclosure and gestational surrender agreement, for which you received five million dollars up front, with fifteen million held in escrow," Julian replied smoothly, pulling a sleek black leather folder from his desk drawer. "Clause 14-B explicitly states that any act of physical neglect, emotional abuse, or hostility toward the minor child results in the immediate, total forfeiture of all financial compensation, the instant dissolution of the marriage, and total civil liability."
