Chapter 10 - The Retaliation

The following morning, Eleanor called an emergency press conference in the main hall of Sterling Manor.

Dozens of journalists, news crews, and financial reporters packed into the foyer, their cameras flashing against the white marble pillars. The story of the Sterling family's eviction had already dominated national news, but no one anticipated what Eleanor was about to reveal.

Eleanor stepped up to the podium, dressed in a sharp navy suit, her posture immaculate. Beside her stood Federal Prosecutor David Chen and Detective Miller from the Financial Crimes Unit.

"Thank you all for coming," Eleanor began, her voice calm, clear, and commanding. "For the past three days, the media has speculated about the takeover of Sterling Manor. Today, I am releasing the full evidence behind that acquisition."

She held up the black ledger recovered from the basement vault.

"This binder contains thirty years of systematic financial fraud, tax evasion, and corporate extortion conducted by Victoria Sterling and her late husband," Eleanor stated into the cluster of microphones. "It also contains proof of forged signatures used to frame innocent employees—including my late father, Arthur Wright."

The room erupted into a frenzy of questions and flashing cameras.

Prosecutor David Chen stepped forward to the microphone. "Based on the evidence provided by Mrs. Sterling and verified by federal forensic accountants, arrest warrants have been issued for Victoria Sterling and Julian Sterling on charges of federal tax evasion, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice."

At that very moment, across town at the Grand Regency Hotel, federal agents broke through the door of Suite 804.

Victoria Sterling stood by the window, her hands trembling as the officers approached with heavy steel handcuffs.

"Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest," the lead agent announced, snapping the cuffs around her wrists.

Victoria did not scream or weep. She stared out the window, her reflection in the glass showing a broken, defeated old woman whose empire of lies had finally crumbled to dust.
