Chapter 13 - The Wright Foundation

On the cleared site of the destroyed dining wing, Eleanor constructed a state-of-the-art child development and advocacy center—The Arthur Wright Foundation, named in honor of her late father.

The new building was a masterpiece of warm wood, clear glass, and open skylights that flooded every room with natural sunshine. It provided free legal defense, psychological support, and educational resources for children from abusive or underprivileged backgrounds.

On opening day, hundreds of families gathered in the central courtyard. Children laughed and played near a massive stone fountain, their voices filling the space where silence and cruelty had once reigned.

Eleanor stood on the outdoor terrace, watching the children play.

"You turned a site of tragedy into a place of hope, Eleanor," David Chen remarked, stepping up beside her with a cup of coffee.

"The best way to destroy a legacy of abuse is to replace it with a legacy of love," Eleanor said, watching Leo play tag with a group of children near the fountain.

"And how is Julian handling his sentence?" Chen asked quietly.

"He signed away all parental rights last month," Eleanor said flatly. "In exchange, I dropped the civil damages claim against his remaining personal assets. He is out of our lives forever."

"And Victoria?"

"She applied for medical transfer last week," Eleanor said, looking out toward the ocean. "It was denied. She will spend the rest of her life in that cell."
