Chapter 7 - The Encirclement

Before Evelyn could reply, the heavy mahogany doors swung open. It was not the storm that entered, but four men in tailored charcoal coats. They wore no badges, bore no smiles. Their hands rested casually inside their coat pockets—a universal language of concealed weaponry.
The lead man, tall with a jagged scar cutting through his left eyebrow, scanned the room with practiced efficiency. His eyes bypassed the glittering guests, the crystal chandelier, and Julian’s puffed-out chest, locking directly onto the child standing behind Evelyn.
"Lady Ashford," the man said, his voice flat, devoid of regional accent—a trained operative. "We are here on behalf of the Highridge Medical Group. The child is a patient who escaped a secure quarantine facility three hours ago. She is severely delusional and highly contagious. We need to retrieve her immediately."
A panic rippled through the guests. Several women stepped back, pulling their silk gowns away from the child as if the air around Lily had suddenly turned toxic.
"Lies!" Lily shrieked, burying her face into Evelyn's side. "They hurt Mama! They put Mama in the basement!"
Evelyn felt a cold rage ignite in her chest. Highridge Medical was a subsidiary of Ashford Global—a department run exclusively by Julian. She turned her head slowly, her eyes fixing on her nephew, whose face had gone pale under the harsh chandeliers.
"A quarantine facility?" Evelyn asked softly. "Is that what we are calling it now, Julian?"

"Aunt Evelyn, listen to reason—" Julian began, stepping forward, his hands raised in a defensive gesture.
"Silent," Evelyn commanded, the single word ringing like a steel blade striking granite. She stepped forward, pulling Lily behind her. "These men do not leave this house alive if they step another foot over my threshold."
