Chapter 12 - THE ECHOES OF TRUTH

Three months later.
The state supreme courtroom was packed to capacity with legal teams, media representatives, and curious members of high society. The trial of Victoria Sterling had drawn national attention, serving as a stark, horrifying reminder of the dark corruption hiding behind extreme wealth.
Victoria sat at the defense table, looking visibly aged, her hands resting quietly in her lap.
On the witness stand sat Detective Miller, presenting the final physical evidence gathered from the Sterling estate.
"Detective," the prosecutor asked, standing before the jury box, "can you confirm the origin of the toxicology reports recovered from the late Mrs. Sterling's exhumed remains?"
"Yes," Miller testified clearly. "The state forensic lab identified significant trace amounts of a rare, odorless organophosphate compound—the same chemical compound discovered in a locked safe inside the defendant's private city apartment."
A quiet gasp echoed through the courtroom gallery.
"And what was the conclusion of the medical examiner?" the prosecutor pressed.
"The original cause of death has been officially amended from natural causes to homicide by acute poisoning," Miller announced.
In the second row of the gallery, Arthur sat quietly, holding Elena’s hand for support. The truth, though agonizing, was finally complete. The shadow that had hung over his family for two years had been dragged into the bright light of justice.

The prosecutor turned toward the jury box, gesturing toward the large video monitor displaying a still frame of the turquoise pool.
"The defendant believed that in the dark of night, behind the high walls of a multi-million dollar estate, no one would ever know what she did," the prosecutor declared passionately. "She believed that power and wealth could shield her from the truth. But truth has a way of rising from the deepest waters."
