Chapter 11 - The Traitor's Confession

As the marshals began escorting Julian down the central aisle toward the exit, a man in a gray suit standing near the back of the room suddenly tried to slip out through a side service door.

"Hold it right there, Dr. Weber!" James called out, his voice sharp and commanding.

Two federal agents stationed at the side doors immediately blocked the man's path, grabbing him by the arms and pinning him against the velvet wallpaper.

Dr. Aris Weber was the chief medical consultant for Vance Global—the man who had signed off on Evelyn’s original 'psychiatric evaluation' three years ago.

"I had nothing to do with it!" Weber stammered, sweat pouring down his pale face, soaking his silk tie. "He paid me! Julian paid me two million dollars into a Panamanian account! He said she was sick! He threatened my license!"

"Save it for the prosecutor, Doctor," the lead marshal said, signaling his men to cuff Weber as well. "We have the bank transfers. You're going down with him."

Evelyn watched as her former captors were paraded through the ballroom in chains. She felt no triumph, no joy—only a deep, overwhelming sense of relief that the dark nightmare that had consumed her life for three years was finally over.

She looked down at Lily, who was resting her head against Evelyn’s collarbone, her small thumb tucked into her mouth, her eyes heavy with exhaustion.

"It's over, baby," Evelyn whispered, kissing her soft hair. "It's all over."
