Chapter 3 - Code Black

Julian lay on the floor, propping himself up on one elbow. A trail of crimson leaked from his nose, smearing across his white button-down shirt. His immaculate appearance was utterly ruined, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and unhinged rage.
"You're dead, Vance!" Julian coughed, spattering the light floor. He pointed a trembling, blood-stained finger at Arthur. "My family owns this town! You think you can walk into my home and lay a hand on me? I’ll have your entire firm liquidated by nightfall! I’ll put you in a cage!"
Arthur ignored the rant completely. He turned his back on Julian, dropping to one knee beside Clara. The terrifying, lethal aura that had filled the room melted away in an instant, replaced by the gentle tenderness of a father.
"Clara... baby, look at me," Arthur whispered, his hands trembling slightly as he avoided touching her injured back. He gently brushed the dark, sweaty hair away from her tear-streaked face.
"Dad..." Clara sobbed, burying her face into his green jacket. The scent of rain, motor oil, and familiar safety washed over her, breaking the dam of her fear. "He... he was going to kill me, Dad. He took my phone... he locked the gates..."
"I know, sweetie. I know. You're safe now," Arthur murmured softly, easing her into a sitting position against his leg.
Behind them, Eleanor finally found her voice, though it trembled with frantic offense. "Mr. Vance! This is an outrage! You have committed armed trespass and aggravated assault in my home! I am calling the commissioner this instant—"
Arthur reached inside his green tactical jacket. In one fluid, practiced motion, he unholstered a matte-black military-grade handgun and kept it lowered at his side, the steel glinting sharply in the daylight. Eleanor’s breath hitched in her throat; she took two staggering steps backward, pressing her back against the dining room wall, her vanity evaporating into pure terror.
Arthur reached up to his left shoulder, clicking a small, encrypted radio unit mounted to his collar. He pressed the tactical push-to-talk button.
"Code black, all three," Arthur said, his voice flat, steady, and chillingly precise into the microphone. "Execute breach and secure. Erase the perimeter."
He unclipped the radio, lowered his gaze back to Julian, who was cowering slightly at the sight of the firearm, and spoke two final words to the bleeding heir:

"You picked the wrong family."
Outside, the quiet afternoon was suddenly shattered by the roaring engines of four heavy, armored black SUVs. They tore through the iron gates of the estate, tires screeching across the gravel driveway, coming to a halt directly in front of the grand mansion entrance.
