Chapter 15 - The Ocean's Promise

The sun was setting over the Pacific Ocean, casting brilliant streaks of gold, crimson, and lavender across the sky.
Julian and Sophy walked hand-in-hand along the sandy beach at the base of the bluff. The gentle tide washed over their bare feet, the water cool and refreshing. Sophy, now six years old, was growing taller, her eyes bright with curiosity and joy.
The silver medallion resting against her chest caught the last rays of sunlight, gleaming bright against her red sweater.
"Daddy, will the water ever swallow the sun?" Sophy asked, staring out at the golden horizon where the sun seemed to touch the sea.
Julian stopped, dropping to one knee so he was at eye level with his daughter. He adjusted the silver chain around her neck, looking into her clear, happy eyes.
"No, Sophy," Julian said softly, his voice full of warmth and absolute certainty. "The sun always comes back up. No matter how dark the water gets, the light always wins."

Sophy smiled, wrapped her small arms around his neck, and kissed his cheek. "I love you, Daddy."
"I love you too, Sophy," Julian whispered, holding her tight as the waves crashed gently against the shore, carrying away the last echoes of the deep.
