Chapter 11 - The Phantom Agenda

Six months later.

The morning sun reflected off the sleek glass façade of the Vance-Sterling Medical Research Center in downtown Boston. The grand auditorium was packed with international journalists, medical professionals, and corporate leaders.

On the main stage stood Eleanor Vance. She was stunning in a tailored cream suit, radiating poise, strength, and authority. Beside her sat Marcus, holding six-month-old Victoria, who was thriving, healthy, and looking around the room with curious hazel eyes.

Eleanor stepped up to the podium, adjusting the microphone. The room quieted down instantly.

"Six months ago," Eleanor began, her clear, strong voice echoing through the auditorium, "the legacy of the Vance family was nearly destroyed by greed, betrayal, and shadow syndicates who believed human lives were nothing more than bargaining chips on a balance sheet. But out of the ruins of that tragedy, we found a new purpose."

She gestured to the large digital screen behind her, which displayed the open-source blueprints for revolutionary non-invasive surgical technologies developed from Arthur Vance’s original patents.

"Today," Eleanor announced, "we are releasing all thirty-four of our core medical patents to the public domain. Free for any hospital, any research lab, and any country in the world to use without royalty fees."

The room erupted into a deafening standing ovation. Cameras flashed continuously as journalists scrambled to file their breaking news stories. Marcus looked at his wife with immense pride, holding Victoria close to his chest.

However, far away from the applause of the Boston auditorium, in a private penthouse overlooking Lake Geneva, Switzerland, a different scene was unfolding.

Sitting in a leather armchair facing a wall of financial monitors was a woman with sharp silver hair, wearing an exquisite white suit. She held a crystal glass of sparkling water, watching the live broadcast of Eleanor’s speech on a high-definition screen.

Beside her desk stood the lead executive who had escaped the Vance estate six months ago, his forehead still bearing a faint scar from Julianna's brass statuette attack.

"The patents are lost, Madame Vance," the executive said nervously. "Eleanor has made them public domain. Our monopoly strategy is completely dead."

The silver-haired woman—Helena Vance, the long-presumed-dead first wife of Arthur Vance and the true global head of the Swiss Syndicate—slowly took a sip of her water. She set the glass down with a soft, ominous click.

"The patents were merely the first phase, Director," Helena said, her voice like velvet smooth silk over frozen steel. "Arthur was foolish to think he could hide his ultimate creation in his daughter's child."

She turned her eyes back to the screen, zooming in on six-month-old Victoria’s vibrant violet-tinted hazel eyes.

"Prepare the Zurich team," Helena ordered quietly, her lips curling into a terrifyingly elegant smile. "It's time to bring my granddaughter home."
